The Role
The Air Combat Group (ACG) Business Intelligence Manager will be accountable under broad direction to perform and achieve complex to very complex business intelligence and reporting work within an integrated workforce. They will hold an Australian citizenship or a dual Australian/US citizenship only.

The position will require an in-depth knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.

Critical duties include:

  • Accountable for Air Combat Group business intelligence by providing advice on related policy, undertaking complex to very complex problem solving, and issues management for stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic context to information relevant to the Air Combat Group, its Systems Program Offices and Industry Partners and consider the ramifications of issues and longer term impact of own work and work area to meet business objectives.
  • Assess, evaluate and improve data quality, business intelligence strategy, initiatives, projects, policy and procedures.
  • Analyse complex to very complex business intelligence issues, applying data science/data analytics expertise to identify and recommend courses of action.
  • Understand and utilise analytical tools, including Artificial Intelligence, machine learning and predictive analytics to prioritise and solve complex problems, and test models and simulations to achieve business outcomes.
  • Identify and maintain Air Combat Group, its Systems Program Offices and Industry Partners test data, scenarios, hypotheses and testing plans.
  • Prepare, publish and provide advice on data generation and analysis techniques, methods applications and outcomes.
  • Manage the risks associated with the use of Air Combat Group, its Systems Program Offices and Industry Partners data, including balancing security and privacy, against the benefits of collecting and sharing data.

The Business Intelligence and Reporting team is well established within the Headquarters Air Combat Group environment.  The applicant will report to the Director of Business and Information Systems for tasking and priorities, and will be responsive to the senior Australian Defence Force leadership for their equities in business intelligence space.  An ability to work across the Air Combat Group, its Systems Program Offices and Industry Partners and their associated business intelligence and reporting frameworks, will be essential to provide timely advice to the relevant the senior Australian Defence Force leadership.

  • Confident in their knowledge and can apply the correct style, tone and level to be able to engage with all Air Combat Group staff of various rank levels and experience, and across multiple geographic locations.
  • The applicant is required to maintain a working level understanding of the relevant frameworks and policies in order to provide accurate business intelligence and reporting advice to senior leaders and staff. 

Note:  Special Access Programs (SAP) are established for a specific class of highly classified information that imposes safeguarding and access restrictions that exceed those normally required for information at the same classification level.  Capabilities under these program may be especially sensitive and measures beyond those applied at the SECRET and TOP SECRET classifications are necessary.  Therefore, we will need to know if an applicant holds dual citizenship to one of the restricted countries to ensure they meet the requirement to perform the role (and we do not breach any of our SAP requirements).  Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance of 'Negative Vetting 1' and there may be a requirement to upgrade to ‘Negative Vetting 2’ clearance after 12 months.
