The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has announced it is seeking views from interest stakeholders to inform the development of a spectrum management strategy for the 1800 MHz band.

The strategy is intended to address increasing demand for access to spectrum in the 1800 MHz band from various industry sectors and provide suitable short- and long-term arrangements.

The consultation involves several elements and allows participants to help shape the nature of the discussion. The elements of the consultation include:

  • 1800 MHz—a shared strategy (Word [.docx 402 kb] or PDF [416 kb]), released 25 October 2012.
  • A stakeholder workshop, hosted by the ACMA at its Sydney office on 15 November 2012.
  • A series of three issues papers:
  • Issues paper 1—Regional and remote apparatus licences in the 1800 MHz band (Word [.docx 510 kb] or PDF [701 kb]), released on 7 December 2012.
  • Issues paper 2, which discusses the possible future expansion of spectrum licensing arrangements in regional and remote areas.
  • Issues paper 3, which sets out a proposal to develop arrangements to encourage greater spectrum sharing within and between industries.

Those interested are encouraged to contribute their views as comments to posts on the 1800 MHz consultation website, or to acmadotgov social media channels on Facebook and Twitter (with the hash tag #1800MHz).
