Energy minister's email probed
Queensland Energy Minister Mark Bailey has been under fire this week for deleting a private email account from which he corresponded with a union boss.
Mr Bailey deleted his private account - This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. - after News Corp reports revealed he was lobbied by Electrical Trades Union boss Peter Simpson about a $13 billion superannuation fund merger.
He deleted the account four days after a Right to Information request was lodged, thwarting the attempt to access his correspondence, but the minister insists he did not know about the request.
The opposition attacked the Government over the issue in parliament, pushing for him to reactivate the account.
Opposition frontbencher Scott Emerson said there was a “huge integrity issue here — the Energy Minister being contacted by the boss of the ETU by backdoor channels and the minister trying to cover it up”.
Ms Palaszczuk ordered director-general Dave Stewart to investigate private email use by Mr Bailey.
Mr Bailey then bowed to the pressure and moved to reactivate his email address.
He told parliament on Thursday morning that he would speak to the Integrity Commissioner about how to reopen the account.
