Facebook tries getting trendy
Social media outlets are becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish from each other, with news Facebook has poached Twitter’s Trending Topics feature.
There has been no official word from Facebook yet, but various reports are saying trends are being tested on the site’s mobile platform ahead of a possible full roll-out. The Trending Topics feature prioritises posts based on the popular momentum of the conversation.
Reports say Trending Topics is currently in beta testing with a small number of U.S. users, allegedly allowing users to click on a topic and see which friends are talking about it, as well as comments and posts from people they are not friends with.
It seems to be a sign of a changing wind blowing through Facebook, with recent news that it was also adjusting its news feed algorithm to allow popular but older stories to re-appear. The social media giant will likely be keen to try any features that might provide a way to restore their stock prices, which still have not moved above its IPO price.
