Hays quarterly report: Information Technology
Recruitment specialist Hays has released its January to March quarterly report into labour and skills demand, examining the ‘current hotspots of recruitment activity and trends’.
Demand for Java and Java Swing experts is the driving force being the boom in demand for information technology professionals, with demand for .NET and SharePoint steadily growing as business integration places ever more demand on ICT labour.
“There is also a continued increase in demand for skilled SQL BI/data warehouse consultants. Almost all .NET jobs are .NET 4.0 and we are seeing a high demand for WPF XAML and data binding, MVVM, MVC3 and web services,” the report found
Oracle SOA suite is a very skill short technology that is increasingly sought by solution providers, with HTML 5 professionals in demand as the language supersedes Flash. News that Adobe will also stop the Flash line will continue to drive demand for HTML 5 professionals. As always, C++ is in high demand.
“There has been a high demand for skills within Storage and Virtualisation technologies and this will continue. IT Integrators/Outsourcers have recently recruited a large number of these skills which has created a skills shortage. We are looking interstate and overseas to find the right resources,” the report found.
Large scale projects starting in the New Year will also place growing demand on project management professionals, in particular project schedulers and project coordinators with ICT experience.
The report outlines a generally positive hiring environment, with demand for full-time professionals set to continue to grow, with temporary assignments also on the increase.
“Companies are planning to increase their development headcounts towards the end of January, and we expect to see particular movement for Java and Java Swing and within Microsoft technologies,” the report found.
