NBN Co. to appear at review of NBN rollout
The Joint Committee on the National Broadband Network will hold its first hearing in Sydney today on the rollout of the National Broadband Network (NBN).
The 16-member Committee, chaired by Independent MP Rob Oakeshott, has been established to report every six months on: the roll-out of the NBN; the achievement of take-up targets; service levels and faults; NBN Co’s effectiveness in meeting its obligations; its strategy for engaging with consumers and handling complaints; its risk management processes and other performance issues.
The Committee is meeting today with representatives of the NBN Co., the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy and the Digital Economy Department of Finance and Deregulation, and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.
Committee Chair, Mr Oakeshott said that over the course of its ongoing review, the committee will examine aspects of the NBN rollout including the fibre, fixed wireless and satellite network; the achievement of take-up targets; network rollout performance, and any other matter relevant to the rollout .
The committee is expected to report by 31 August 2011.
