New map puts big water data online
The divining rod has been replaced by a digital equivalent, with the launch of an internet database for groundwater monitoring.
A new project from Federation University is nearing completion, with the launch of an interactive online groundwater map covering all of Victoria.
Researchers, farmers and other authorities will be able to use the site monitor groundwater supplies.
The site is partly built from data stretching back over 100 years, when water monitoring was conducted by mining companies.
The Visualising Victoria's Groundwater website is online now and free to access.
It is designed to allow residents to find their own properties on a map and have a look at its groundwater supplies.
The following short film has been produced to explain the project in detail.
