The New South Wales Government has announced it has ‘overhauled its ICT policy’ in a bid to deliver significant improvements to its customer service, data management, procurement and industry engagement.

Deputy Premier, Andrew Stoner, said the policy shift puts the state in a strong position for growth in the ‘expanding global digital economy.’

Mr Stoner said that the State Government is finalising a digital economy industry that will outline the vision and strategy for the digital economy in NSW over the coming decade.

“The industry action plan will outline actions for both industry and Government that will encourage industry growth, development and innovation,” Mr Stoner said.

Finance Minister Guy Pearce said the delivery of the action plan will see significant productivity gains in the public service.

“The NSW Government ICT Strategy 2012, has allowed us to foster a new relationship with the ICT industry that will deliver real improvements in service delivery for the people of NSW,” Mr Pearce said.

“The mandating of the  ProcureIT contract allows industry to retain and take commercial advantage of unique intellectual property in products and services they sell to the government.

“Service NSW will deliver a range of government services and transactions through a 24/7 telephone service, a customer friendly website, and one-stop-shops across the state.
