Optus has announced its plans to expand its 3G mobile network coverage in Tasmania over the next two years, significantly increasing the company's operations in the state.

Optus will increase its mobile infrastructure to over 100 base stations throughout Tasmania which will both expand coverage and significantly increase the quality of existing services.

The announcement comes as the Tasmanian Government has elected to use Optus’ services for the first time, after an uninterrupted period of use of Telstra’s services for most of the state’s telecommunications requirements

“The extent of the investment and the ability to meet customer expectations has provided the Tasmanian Government with the confidence in choosing Optus for mobile and mobile data services,” said Optus Networks managing director Gunther Ottendorfer.
