PwC spends big on ChatGPT
PwC has announced a new deal with OpenAI to become the largest customer and first reseller of OpenAI's enterprise product, ChatGPT Enterprise.
This strategic move, unveiled this week, positions PwC at the forefront of the generative artificial intelligence (genAI) revolution, as businesses increasingly seek to integrate and benefit from AI technologies.
PwC will implement ChatGPT Enterprise, the most advanced version of the Microsoft-backed AI startup's chatbot, tailored for large corporations.
According to the Wall Street Journal, which first reported the agreement, PwC will make this AI tool available to its 75,000 employees in the United States and 26,000 employees in the United Kingdom.
“We are actively engaged in genAI with over 95 per cent of UK and US consulting client accounts, alongside discussing the use and implications of AI with many of our audit clients,” PwC stated.
However, the firm has not disclosed the financial terms of the deal or its specific plans regarding the resale of the AI product.
Joe Atkinson, PwC's US Chief Products and Technology Officer, says PwC has already identified over 3,000 use cases for generative AI technology.
The firm has been developing custom GPTs to assist employees with various tasks, including reviewing tax returns and generating dashboards and reports.
This agreement builds upon PwC's earlier announcement to invest $1 billion in generative AI technology over the next three years.
OpenAI, aiming to expand its enterprise customer base beyond Microsoft, has been actively courting major corporations.
In April, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman met with hundreds of Fortune 500 executives to promote AI services for corporate use.
This partnership underscores the rapid adoption of AI in the business world, with PwC noting that approximately 950 of its top 1,000 consulting clients in the US are already engaging with generative AI.
The deal with OpenAI is expected to further enhance PwC's capabilities in providing AI solutions to its clients.
