Tasmanian ICT Centre allocated $50 million
CSIRO, industry and the Federal and Tasmanian Governments have announced an additional joint funding of $50 million for Tasmania’s peak information communications technology research body, the Tasmanian ICT Centre (TasICTC).
The funding has been allocated to the TasICTC following a round of discussions between Tasmanian independent Andrew Wilkie and the Federal Government. The funding breakdown is as follows
- $20 million from the Federal Government
- $20 million from CSIRO
- $5 million from State Government
- $5 million from industry
The CSIRO’s Tasmanian ICT Centre, established in 2006, was initially awarded $30 million in funding from the research agency and the State government’s Intelligent Island Program.
The new funding for the centre has been allocated on the basis of the research program’s research results in Tasmania’s prawn aquaculture, energy expenditure and research into water policy and use.
TasICTC’s main areas of research have been water resource information systems, health information delivery, improving aquaculture efficiency and increasing quality of energy management.
