TPG expands 5G plans
TPG has added hundreds of sites to its 5G network rollout plan.
TPG Telecom says over 85 percent of the population in the Australia’s six largest cities will be served 5G by the end of 2021.
The company has released its first full-year results after the merger of TPG and Vodafone Hutchison Australia.
It says that more than 1,200 5G sites have now entered the planning phase.
TPG’s 5G plans were put off by an 18-month delay caused by the Federal Government's decision to ban 5G equipment vendors Huawei and ZTE.
The company has now secured Nokia as its 5G equipment vendor, and says its network will grow alongside the availability of 5G devices in Australia.
“We estimate that by the end of next year, 80 percent of Australians we have access to a 5G device, but that time, as I said, our plan is to deliver 85 percent coverage in the top cities,” TPG Telecom CEO Iñaki Berroeta said.
