Principal Cyber Security Engineer

About the role
- Assess risks for network, infrastructure, applications, and cloud services, ensuring robust security architecture.
- Building tools, automations, and manage security operations infrastructure
- Drive partnerships to foster a culture of cyber security awareness across the department
- Innovate solutions by researching emerging technologies and integrating best practices into policies
- Guide teams with technical advice, enabling secure, efficient system designs and implementations.
As the Principal Cyber Security Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in protecting the NSW Department of Education’s digital infrastructure. As part of the Cyber Operations group with the IT Department, you will collaborate closely with the threat intelligence and incident response teams, as well as the broader IT department and business teams to build and deliver secure-by-design solutions. You will promote a strong cyber security culture as part of a dynamic team responsible for driving security innovation and mitigating risks, at scale, and across diverse environments.

About you
- Demonstrate strong expertise in cyber security frameworks, tools, and practices
- Skilled in secure system design across cloud, network, and applications
- Experience in risk assessment and mitigation within complex environments
- Experience with SIEM integrations, SOAR & Automations, detection engineering and threat intelligence enrichment highly desirable
- Effective communicator, and team player, able to translate technical advice clearly
- Knowledgeable in emerging technologies to drive innovative solutions
- Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

- Working With Children Check (WWCC) for paid employment
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
