The Role
A suitably qualified and experienced Engineer is sought to undertake the roles and responsibilities of the Cyber Security Engineer at the APS6 level.

Responsibilities include:

  • Commitment to Defence leadership behaviours, including, adhering to Defence’s values, accountability, risk management, inclusivity, partnerships, and building high-performance teams.
  • Apply engineering knowledge to maritime systems to quickly gain an understanding of system function, operation and security posture. Enabling to support DGENG-N through:
    • Major Systems Fundamental Input to Capability Requirements Lead; and
    • Provision of engineering advice, products and services in respect to Naval technical matters in accordance with the strategic direction set for Defence.
  • Provide engineering advice on Navy systems throughout the capability life cycle such as the assessment of risk and evaluation of security posture.
  • Development of security requirements, policies and procedures.
  • Undertake security research and testing.
  • Support security incident investigations.

About our Team
The position is within the Cyber Systems Cell, a small dynamic team within Directorate Navy Engineering (DNE). DNE is the Director General Engineering Navy (DGENG-N)’s primary support group in the provision and retention of specialist technical and engineering knowledge, products and services.

DNE is responsible for the coordinated Navy Engineering Branch (NEB) inputs to programs and projects, ensuring the NEB is represented on all Naval and Defence matters requiring Navy Engineering expertise throughout all phases of the Defence Capability Life Cycle (CLC). DNE is customer focused and continuously delivers products and services to Navy stakeholders. DNE consists of six directorates aligned to Navy technology and whole of ship support needs.

The ideal candidate will have an interest in cyber security, willingness to learn new skills outside of their comfort zone and the motivation to continually develop themselves.

Candidates must:

  • Have strong analytical skills in the field of cyber security with the ability to apply these skills to naval ships;
  • Be willing to contribute to a culture of cooperation and sharing of knowledge, with a willingness to  take on leadership and mentoring roles;
  • Desire to learn and continually develop new skills outside of their current qualifications in order to support Navy Capability needs;
  • Have the ability to prioritise and manage tasks in a demanding environment;
  • Ability to work both autonomously and within a team;
  • Problem solve and achieve set outcomes;
  • Have, understanding of, and experience in the application of engineering judgement.
  • Occasionally work interstate and live on-board Navy ships at sea remote from land for a few days.
