The Role

The Office of National Intelligence (ONI) is seeking a highly-skilled, motivated and experienced senior digital technology professional to join its new Digital and Data Division. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced technology leader to work at the leading edge of technological and data capabilities, help drive ONI’s digital transformation, and provide leadership of strategic initiatives across the National Intelligence Community (NIC).

The role will be a driving force behind ONI’s intelligence and digital strategy, shaping the development of technical capabilities and data initiatives. It demands a balance of visionary leadership and practical execution skills, with responsibilities including identifying and planning for ONI and the NIC’s future technology needs, strengthening ONI and the NIC’s data science capability, and delivering strategic whole-of-community collaboration and partnership. The successful candidate will harness cloud, data and AI to enable ONI and the NIC to effectively support Australia’s most critical national intelligence priorities.

The core responsibilities of the Assistant Director-General, Digital and Data Division include:

• Leading a high-performing branch driving whole-of-organisation digital and data capability to ensure ONI harnesses the opportunities that technological advancements present for the organisation and its intelligence mission.
• Helping identify, shape and deploy innovative data and digital solutions for ONI, including modern, resilient and sustainable ICT services, productivity and automation solutions, tools for analytical capability and intelligence impact, and enabling data-driven decision-making.
• Providing digital and data leadership for the NIC by pursuing programs and projects that enable intelligence advantage, boost collaboration and interoperability, and drive collective community benefit.
• As a senior member of ONI’s Digital and Data leadership team, work collaboratively to foster an integrated digital organisational culture, achieve organisational objectives through building foundational data and digital skills, and support faster technology adoption.
• Support broader organisational objectives and digital and data workforce development, including through attraction, retention and staff development.
